My Top 10 favorite animated films from 2003-2013 (post Nemo-era)

First, let’s get this out of the way: With the exception of the first one, I hate Shrek films, especially Shrek the Third, although Shrek Forever After wasn't that bad- but still not quite enough.

Okay. Breathe.

In my opinion, Finding Nemo (2003) paved the way for the genius in modern animated films in terms of script and storyline. So in honor of this film, I shall make a "top 10" list that doesn't include it – if that makes sense at all.

There have been a lot of films which tried to follow suit but have failed miserably. Finding Nemo was full of depth, character and emotion that I practically don’t have anything bad to say against it; hence, the bar was pretty much set so high that many succeeding attempts have fallen so dramatically short.

I’m going to give my hate list first:  I think Rio (2011) was awful – a thin plot poorly fused with the concept of mardi gras to make it lively, plus they must've thought a few musicians could save it (also: a total waste of voice talents from Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway, to name a few). Of course, it’s obvious that no one likes spin-offs like Puss in Boots (2011) or adaptations such as Yogi Bear (2010) and The Lorax (2012). Meanwhile, I don’t have anything to say about Cars and Cars 2 (2006, 2011) except that they were dull. The worst in the last decade for me was Brave (2012). I hate that movie so much I don’t even know where to start.

So here it is: With a need for justification, my 10 favorite animated films in the last 10 years:

#10: The Simpsons Movie (2007)
