This year I shall write a novel

novel2

I’m more than a week late in coming up with a plan for this year (I don’t call it a resolution because it’s not necessarily a “fix”, just something I wanna add to my pretentiously busy life).

So yes, I’ve decided that this 2014, I will start writing my own novel or short story. It’s not my first time – my unsuccessful attempt back in the day was something that had haunted me for a while, but thankfully it had stopped when I became a web content creator.

This time, though, I was inspired by inspiring. Yes, that’s right.

novel3

I have a colleague who also has a knack for writing but needs an explicit push towards doing something about it (she’s kinda shy). Recently I’ve been dishing out bits of motivation here and there so she could believe more in herself. She’s good at organizing ideas and using metaphors. I convinced her to put up a Wordpress blog and now she’s here! Check her out at brynelmaries.wordpress.com

While I was helping to inspire her, I was also inspired.

She reminded me of myself so many years ago when I didn’t have enough confidence to express myself through writing. Back then there were no Wordpress or Tumblr, and nobody really cared about what you think (narcissistic “status updates” and “tweets” were still non-existent).

So I had to write them –you know, the conventional way, as in using a pen and a semi-used notebook. That was in high school. Whenever I was attending Biology (I hated that subject to death –all natural sciences, in fact), I would scribble down random thoughts until it became a habit.

That’s when I bought my first journal. Actually, it was still technically a notebook, but it was a little more expensive and hard-bound, hihi. I wrote all my first essays, poems and haikus in that journal.

Then poof! Losing it is one of the biggest regrets of my life, and I shall carry that to my grave.

novel4

This is my last chance to salvage my dream of finishing a novel. I really don't care if it doesn’t go anywhere or nobody would like it. So long as I satisfy myself, that should be enough.

Wait. I don't have a pen.
